Measurement and data
Average position
What it means, how it is used and what to know for your project
Understanding the term
It is an average, so it hides as much as it reveals. An average position of 9 can cover first place for a rare query and thirtieth place for a frequent one.
Always examine it by query, never just overall. The overall value for a website means very little.
