Search visibility
Sitemap
Also known as: site map, sitemap.xml
Understanding the term
It does not move a website up the results. It speeds up discovery, which matters especially for a new website, a website with many pages, or pages that are poorly linked together.
It is declared in robots.txt and submitted in Search Console. A common mistake is to submit the website address rather than the sitemap file itself, which returns an error.
