301 redirect
Also known as: permanent redirect
Understanding the term
It is the cornerstone of a redesign. It transfers the authority accumulated by the old page to the new one and prevents existing links from ending in an error.
The redirect plan is prepared before launch, address by address. It is the stage most redesigns rush, which is why so many rebuilt websites lose their traffic overnight.
