Site architecture
Also known as: website structure, information architecture
Understanding the term
The usual rule is that no important page should be more than three clicks from the homepage. Beyond that, it receives little internal link equity and visitors struggle to find it.
It is decided before the design, not afterwards. Weak site architecture eventually shows up as an oversized menu that nobody knows how to organise.
