The basics
Hosting
Also known as: server, hosting provider
Understanding the term
There are three main levels, distinguished by how many websites share the same machine. Shared hosting puts hundreds on one server, dedicated hosting reserves one for you, and on-demand hosting allocates resources according to traffic.
Unlike a domain, hosting can be changed without losing anything, provided you have access to the files and database. It is the least risky line in a website budget.
